New Delhi, April 15: Political parties registering their protest against rising prices and inflation paralysed the first day of the post-recess Budget Session. “I hope both the Houses will function tomorrow,” said Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi after meetings of business advisory committees of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

Ravi said Food Minister Sharad Pawar will give the principal response in the House on Wednesday and Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Commerce Minister Kamal Nath are expected to intervene to respond to the points concerning their domains during the discussion.

In the Lok Sabha, CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta will raise the discussion under Rule193. Pawar’s reply to the debate is expected in the evening.

The Rajya Sabha, too, will have a short-duration discussion after the Question Hour. BJP deputy leader Sushma Swaraj would open the debate and the discussion will conclude in the evening. Pawar would respond to it only on Thursday.

The Rajya Sabha will consider the Central University Laws Bill, which is intended to streamline the working of central universities. This Bill may come up on April 17. The Upper House would also discuss the working of various ministries during the week beginning from April 21. Thereafter, the Finance Bill would be ready for adoption in the House.
