CHANDIGARH, APRIL 23 A day after an English daily reported that some of the domestic players playing for Kings XI Punjab were moved out of the team five-star hotel to less fancy accomodation, Neil Maxwell, CEO of Kings XI Punjab commented that he found this accommodation concept a bit awkward.

“I am really surprised by the media reports about players staying in different hotels. It is not a matter of money at all and I guess if given a chance, I will be ready to stay under a table to play alongside some of the best in the world,” said Maxwell, while addressing a hurriedly called press conference at the PCA Stadium, Mohali.

One report had claimed that the domestic players in the squad had been moved out to ‘save costs’, while another said that they had been shifted to accomodate visiting celebrities.

But Maxwell said that theirs was the only team to have the same set of guidelines for the entire bunch of 29 players, whether they were among the 16 picked for a game or the reserves.

“We could have asked the reserve guys to spend time at home but we think they should spend time with the international players. It is not possible to accommodate everyone at the main hotel. Even the Mumbai Indians will be staying in another hotel when they come here,” Maxwell said.

Owners of the team were not available for comments.
