Lucknow, April 25: Elated by the victory of her party in the bypolls, Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati on Friday started reorienting her machinery in Uttar Pradesh with an eye on the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. She dissolved all district units of her party and directed leaders to reconstitute them in tune with the party’s new concept of “sarvajan samaj”.

She also hinted at a Cabinet reshuffle as one minister was asked to resign and indications were given to nearly six other ministers to be ready to fight the parliamentary elections.

At a meeting of ministers, MPs, MLAs, zonal coordinators and other office-bearers on Friday, she asked Agricultural Education Minister K K Gautam to resign from the Cabinet and work for strengthening the organisation.

Gautam has been asked to take charge of Phoolpur, Chayal, Chitrakoot and Banda parliamentary constituencies. Meanwhile, some party sources said that Gautam’s name has been finalised as a candidate for the Lok Sabha elections.

Dissolving all divisional and district units, Mayawati directed leaders to constitute these units at the earliest keeping in mind the participation of sarvajan samaj (all caste and communities). “Follow the same pattern which brought victory to the BSP,” she said. She also asked them to follow the new delimitation guidelines for the Lok Sabha polls.

Emphasising on the party’s social engineering policy, Mayawati also expressed her gratefulness towards her party workers.

“Your hard work, honesty and responsibility shown in the bypoll has strengthened the BSP Government and has also given a new dimension to the party’s samajik bhaichara (social brotherhood) movement,” she said.

Referring to her administration as a “government for poverty-stricken and destitutes,” she advised partymen to work in coordination with the Government machinary.
