mumbai, april 26: Maybe Kolkata was too busy spotting Shah Rukh Khan that they missed a cricketing sacrilege. When Deccan Chargers captain VVS Laxman entered Eden Garden to play his first Twenty20 game, it was akin to a maestro turning up for a boy-band on a stage that has witnessed his timeless classic. Eighteen runs in three innings, an uncomfortable stay of a mere 28 balls in the IPL, three straight losses as a captain, plus some very unpopular and highly contentious decisions has meant VVS isn’t what he used to stand for. Very Very Special has changed to Very Very Slow for Laxman the batsman and Very Vilified Skipper for Laxman the captain.

There have been several rants on the Deccan Chargers’s official website where fans through their web posts have vented their frustration over the dismal performance of their ‘once upon a time’ favourite cricketer. He is being called a total misfit in the T20 format and his decision to give Andrew Symonds the last over in the game against Rajasthan Royals has been severely criticised.

Can’t the sponsors change the captain now and give it to Gilly ???? And how the @#*& that he give the last over to Symonds ... who has given so many runs in the last two over. This is clear-cut example of Laxman’s insane captaincy.

After the last game with two topclass overs from Afridi and RP, VVS should have never let Symo take that over. I nearly smashed my TV. PLEASE DC MANAGEMENT, send VVS home .... put Gibbs in as a permanent replacement .... otherwise we’ll be known for one of the most expensive flops of the year!

I have some interesting facts about Laxman. Laxman faced a total of 11763 balls (93 Test) until this day and had hit 794 fours and 4 sixes ... great isn’t it. That means he required about 15 overs to hit one four...don’t dream about 6s ... . maybe once in a blue moon. (Strike rate 49.17). Laxman faced a total of 3282 balls (86 ODIs ) and he hit 222 fours and 4 sixes ... that means he once again required about 15 overs to hit one four...don’t dream about 6s...he forgets a lot that it is an ODI.

When Laxman was asked about his dismal form on eve of his side’s game against Mumbai Indians he gave an unconvincing reply.

... contd.
