UDAIPUR: A 32-year-old hotel manager was on Wednesday sentenced to life imprisonment by a fast track court here for raping a British journalist in December last year.

Parvat Singh, manager of Pardesi Guest House, was also sentenced to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment by Upper District and Sessions Judge Brajendra Kumar Jain for house trespass with an intention to commit an offence which could be punishable with life term. Both the sentences will run concurrently.

Singh has to pay a cash penalty of Rs 25,000 for “raping” the journalist and Rs 10,000 for house trespass under Section 450 of the Indian Penal Code.

The journalist had arrived in Udaipur on December 19 last year and stayed at the guest-house where she was allegedly raped. According to the judgement, Singh had knocked at the door of the victim’s room on the pretext of giving her a blanket on December 23.
