IIM-A list out, 6% seats reserved for OBCs
AHMEDABAD, MAY 1: The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) on Thursday came out with the full-fledged list of 280 candidates for admission to its post-graduate programme (PGP).
The list also includes 6 per cent OBC quota and other reserved categories after the Supreme Court vacated a stay and passed a verdict on reservations at central institutes of higher education.
“We have prepared the admission list as per the guidelines of the Moily Committee, which had been given the task of preparing a roadmap for implementing the quota for OBCs in central educational institutes. This year we have made provision for 6 per cent OBC quota. But within three years, the entire 27 per cent reservation quota will be implemented in a phased manner,” an admission committee member said. Chairman of the committee Prof Satish Deodhar said, “May 19 is the last date for confirming acceptance of admission for all candidates who have been offered admission to the PGP.” He said May 19 was the common date for all IIMs to confirm their admissions and they were hoping to start the PGP academic session by June-end.
Had the Supreme Court stay remained in force until the admission list for 2008-09 was announced for the PGP batch of 2008-2010, the seats offered for students belonging to different categories would have been 186 for General; 38 for Scheduled Castes (15 per cent); 19 for Scheduled Tribes (7.5 per cent) and 8 for Persons with Disability (3 per cent).
Following the apex court verdict, the new intake capacity for the PGP at IIM-A has been increased to 280 and the new seat-sharing ratio stands at 192 for the general category; 17 (6 per cent) for OBCs; 42 (15 per cent) for SCs; 21 (7.5 per cent) for STs; and 8 (3 per cent) for Persons with Disability.
“We have declared the list of candidates for students belonging to all categories and their personal background will be known only after they accept admission offers on May 19. At present, those who have been offered admission can check their status using their test registration number and date of birth,” Prof Deodhar added.
