Advani, RSS sit for a Parivar dinner
Nagpur, May 4: With the BJP dreaming of coming back to power in the next year’s elections, the Sangh Parivar too is back in action mode.
On Sunday morning, BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Lal Krishna Advani met with top RSS leadership and had a three-hour-long discussion with them at the organisation’s headquarters here.
Those present at the meeting included RSS chief K S Sudarshan, RSS’s Mohan Bhagwat and Suresh Soni. Advani was accompanied by state BJP president Nitin Gadkari. Unity within the Sangh Parivar was the main issue of the meeting, sources said.
Though Advani had earlier announced that he would return to Delhi on Saturday night after attending the farmers’ rally in Bhandara district, he stayed back to meet these leaders.
Apparently, RSS leader Madandas Devi had held a preliminary meeting with Advani two days ago to organise Sunday’s meeting.
Later, talking to mediapersons, Advani said it was a casual meeting. “We hadn’t had dinner together for a long time. So, it was organised today,” he added.
“The fact that they had dinner together proves that old wounds have healed and the RSS is back on the unity path, especially with elections round the corner,” said RSS observer Dilip Deodhar.
Advani had declared at Saturday’s rally that if the BJP comes back to power at the Centre, it would focus on rural development — a favourite agenda of the RSS.
Incidentally, the RSS core group, also comprising Madandas Devi and Suresh Ketkar, has been holding discussions at a small village near here since May 1. The brainstorming session will continue till May 7, sources said.
Earlier, on Saturday afternoon, party leader Gopinath Munde had also met RSS leadership, along with another party leader, Bangaru Laxman. The RSS wants Munde to be retained to lead the party, as he is the only powerful OBC leader in Maharashtra.
