 The Lok Sabha adjourned sine die on May 5 and the Rajya Sabha on May 6, both ahead of the May 9 schedule. A look at how the session played out in numbers

WORKING DAYS:

The Lok Sabha met for 28 days and the Rajya Sabha for 30 days, both less than the planned 35 days. This is the least that Parliament worked compared to the last three Budget sessions. The session of 2005 was the longest: as against the 39 days planned, Parliament worked for 38.

WORKING HOURS

Both Houses worked the maximum number of hours per day

5.8 hours by LS when it is scheduled to work for 6 hours

4.7 by RS when it is scheduled to work for 5

“Well functioning” Question Hour

16.8 hours spent answering questions raised by LS members

20.1 hours spent on Question Hour in RS

105 questions replied to in the LS, up from 75 in 2007

NON-FINANCIAL LEGISLATIVE BUSINESS

Budget Session is primarily meant for transaction of financial business. However, a substantial amount of non-financial work also gets done.
