“Arms and ammunition have been recovered from the robbers, but over Rs 4 lakh looted from the bank remains untraced. It is suspected that the mob might have snatched it,” Buxar SP Amit Kumar Jain told reporters.
Six men were nabbed by residents of Chausa as they tried to flee after looting the local branch of State Bank of India. Four of them were lynched while two were admitted to hospital in critical condition. A security guard of the bank had earlier been shot dead by the six men.
The six men, who came on three motorcycles, barged into the bank around 1.30 pm after gunning down the guard who tried to block their way. They allegedly looted over Rs 4.40 lakh in cash. As they tried to flee, one of the motorcycles did not start. In a hurry, four men got on to one motorcycle while the other two hopped on to the second bike.
In another incident of mob violence, a man, accused of stealing, was beaten up in Siwan town on Thursday night. He was handed over to the police this morning, but died of injuries in hospital.
