Man held for UK student’s murder was living with her

LONDON, MAY 9: A british court on Friday denied bail to a 24-year-old Indian student charged with the murder of a post graduate student from Andhra Pradesh studying at Wolverhamption and remanded him to custody till May 16.

Police produced Nagaraja Kumar Nalluri, also a student at the Wolverhampton, in the Birmingham Magistrates Court on charges of murdering Samrajyo Jyothirmayee Vempala.

Police said that Nalluri had sustained neck injuries and was not in a position to make a statement.

According to official sources, Nalluri was also staying with Jyothirmayee, who hailed from Vijaywada and was in the UK on a study visa attending a postgraduate course in health sciences at the University of Wolverhampton.

Jyothirmayee, 23, succumbed to severe head injuries while Nalluri was found injured in the private accommodation at Montague Road, Handsworth, where they were living.

According to neighbours, they heard a quarrel between the two people before Jyothirmayee was found dead and Nalluri injured.

A meeting was held at the University of Wolverhamption to condole the death of Jyothirmai. The Vice Chancellor of the University, the Dean of the School of Health, President and General Secretary of European Telugu Association, Chairman of the Institute of Asian Business, the Consular General of India in Birmingham, Jordana Diengdoh Pavel and several students were present.

Lord Swraj Paul, the Chancellor of the University, sent a condolence message which was read out on the occasion.
