Gujjars, Bakerwals seek post-October poll

"We appeal to the Election Commission to hold the polls after October to allow maximum participation of the Gujjars and Bakerwals or facilitate mobile polling in the mountains if they are held earlier," the Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation, an NGO, said to the poll panel.

The six-point memorandum, addressed to Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami, sought a fresh survey and registration of nomads in the Himalayan region under a new "shelterless nomadic voter category."
