




This time, they allegedly beat up a national bravery award winner in Azamgarh district.
Chandan Paswan (17), winner of the Sanjay Chopra Award in 2002 for rescuing two children from drowning in Tons river of Azamgarh, was beaten up by two constables on Saturday. They also snatched Rs 5 from the boy.
Terming the incident unfortunate, Superintendent of Police (Azamgarh) V K Garg said: “Both the constables have been suspended.”
Chandan told The Indian Express that the constables had warned him against registering a case against them. Influential people of the area were also allegedly approaching him to hush up the matter. “I am scared that if I register a case, they may harm me,” said Chandan, an orphan.
The incident took place near Nizamabad market when Chandan, a Class XI student of Janta Inter College, was returning by cycle to his village Asani-Stomarganj.
