MUMBAI, MAY 14 : Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh today got away with a five-match ODI ban for slapping India teammate S Sreesanth after an IPL match in Mohali.

But he was warned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of a life ban if there was any misconduct on his part in the future.

The BCCI disciplinary committee, which was handed the probe report yesterday by the Board-appointed commissioner Sudhir Nanavati, said Harbhajan would be out of five ODIs. This follows the 11-game suspension imposed on him earlier by the IPL governing council.

The 5-match ODI ban means that Harbhajan will miss next month’s tri-series in Bangladesh and possibly a game in the Asia Cup to follow.

The BCCI also wrote a letter to Sreesanth, telling him to improve his behaviour on the field or face action.

Harbhajan was asked to appear before the committee at 2.30 pm. “Everything was planned but we kept it away from the media,” BCCI chief Sharad Pawar said.
