PATNA, JUNE 22 : Following reports that more than 200 Bihar Police constables who had gone to Jammu and Kashmir for training left for their home state on Saturday after one of them was allegedly sexually harassed by a BSF havaldar, the Nitish Kumar Government on Sunday ordered an inquiry into the incident. The constables from Bihar had gone to a BSF centre in Udhampur a few days back. DIG of BSF, Jammu, J B Sangwan, who rushed to the spot on Saturday, has also ordered an inquiry into the episode.

Director General of Police, Bihar, S C Jha has ordered a Bihar Military Police (BMP) commandant to visit Udhampur to look into the serious allegation.

In all, 370 police recruits from Bihar had gone for training at Udhampur and Jagnoo on June 1 for a 40-week course. The exact number of those returning to Bihar, however, could not be confirmed.

While ordering an inquiry, Jammu DIG of the paramilitary force, on his part, had denied the charge. “The Bihar Police constables who have gone back probably found the BSF training too tough,” Sangwan had said on Saturday. But the Bihar Police decided in favour of an inquiry. BMP Additional Director General of Police Abhyanand told The Indian Express that BMP Commandant Ramnarayan Singh had been entrusted with the task. “He would soon leave for Udhampur.” the ADGP said.

Jha told reporters it was too early to conclude if allegations made by the state police constables were “serious or frivolous”.

The state police would also take up the matter with the J&K Police.
