Patna, June 27: A Muzaffarpur court on Friday ordered the district police to register an FIR against West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya for “hurting religious sentiments of Hindus by saying that Ram Sethu does not exist” during his speech on December 7, 2007.

The court was hearing a case filed by a city advocate Sudhir Kumar Ojha in this regard.

The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate asked the Sadar police station officer-in-charge, through the district superintendent of police, to immediately file an FIR against the West Bengal Chief Minister and submit the chargesheet to the court.

Muzaffarpur SP Sudhanshu Kumar said the police would comply with the court order soon.

The complainant said he had filed a complaint in the CJM court on December 10 last year after Buddhadeb had said Ram Sethu was “non-existent” and that Lord Rama “a figment of poets’ imagination”.

The court, after hearing the case on December 10, directed the Sadar police station to submit a report on the matter.

The police station submitted its report on April 24, 2008.
