kanpur, July 2: Dispelling rumours of a possible tie-up with the BSP, BJP president Rajnath Singh on Wednesday called it a ‘B’ team of the Congress. The rumours started doing the rounds after BJP prime ministerial candidate L K Advani’s June 27 speech in Kanpur and BSP chief Mayawati’s reaction following Samajwadi Party’s cosying up to the Congress has provided further grist to the mill.

Addressing mediapersons at Circuit House here, Singh said when it was time for the Congress to bid adieu to power, efforts were being made to woo the SP and BSP. “Therefore under any circumstances, the BJP would not have any dealing with either of these political parties.”

He charged the BSP and SP of being equally responsible for miseries faced by the people during the tenure of the UPA Government.

“Both these parties have supported the UPA Government, and when the Congress is now in danger, SP and BSP leaders are busy in negotiations to save the Union Government,” Singh said.

Singh also took Left parties to task. “In the past four years, on more than 10 occasions, Communists have threatened to withdraw support from the UPA Government, but each time their threat turned out to be a damp squib,” Singh said.

When it comes to the Congress, the BJP president feels that its leaders lack vision. “When the entire stress is on saving the Government, how can one find time to think about the people,” Singh said and added that “inflation has already crossed the double- digit mark and if similar conditions prevail for another two months it will cross 15 per cent”.

All for a vibrant and a young BJP, Singh said youths and women would be given preference in the distribution of party tickets for the Lok Sabha elections. After the July 12 party meeting, names of more candidates will be announced. “The formal declaration for several of the candidates from UP will also be made after this meeting,” Singh said.
