Prices of 30 essential items dipped: Govt
New Delhi:: Rates of 30 essential items had eased for the week ended June 21, the government said today. The finance ministry said in a statement that annual rate of inflation for the week ended June 21 was 5.89 per cent, based on prices 30 essential commodities, compared with 6.55 per cent previous week. "There is considerable relief in the behaviour of prices of 30 essential commodities, which include food grains, pulses, edible oils, vegetables, dairy products, tea, sugar, salt and a few other commodities, including kerosene, soap, safety matches, dhotis and saris," the statement said. Referring to headline inflation, it said the prices were rising mainly due to continuing high prices of crude oil, iron ore and steel products. It also pointed out that after sharp rise in previous two weeks, prices of fuel, power and light have stablised. In the primary articles group, which include items such as urad, moong, onion, garlic, eggs and some fruits, the prices have declined, it said.
