Bangalore: : The Congress in Karnataka on Sunday suffered another jolt when party MLA J Narasimha-swamy resigned his Doddaballapur assembly seat and joined the BJP, a development that indicates continued desertion from opposition parties into the ruling side.

Narasimhaswamy, son of senior Congress leader and former Union Minister R L Jalappa, has been sulking against the party leadership for sometime now. Defending his decision to bid adieu to the Congress, he said: “I had to take the decision keeping in mind the development of my constituency”. He said he met Speaker Jagadish Shettar on Sunday morning and submitted his resignation. He is the second MLA from the Congress and fourth from the Opposition ranks to walk into the fold of the saffron party.

On Saturday, Asnotikar Anand Vasant of Congress, elected from Karwar seat, resigned his Assembly membership and joined BJP along with two JDS members — Balachandra L Jarakhiholi and K Shivanagouda Naik.
