Bhim Singh says NSA warned him to vote for Azad, Narayanan claims it was only advice
New Delhi/Jammu, July 7: A day before the crucial confidence vote in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, leader of Panthers party Prof Bhim Singh alleged on Sunday that National Security Adviser M K Narayanan had threatened to withdraw his security if his party voted against the Congress Government.
However, Narayanan dismissed Singh’s allegation, saying “that is the way he speaks”. He said there was no question of issuing any warnings to anybody or asking them to vote in a particular manner. According to Naryanan, his conversation with Singh was only meant as advice to his party to keep the situation in the state uppermost in their mind.
Panthers Party has four MLAs whose support will be vital when Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad faces the floor test on Monday.
Narayanan said that during his overall discussion on Jammu and Kashmir, he had told Singh that he hoped people like him will support a popular Government rather than imposition of President’s Rule.
Singh alleged that the NSA told him that if his party did not vote in favour of Azad, then “my security will be withdrawn and I will not be able to stay in either Kashmir or Delhi”. Singh said Narayanan had called him up on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Panthers Party members staged protests in front of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s residence in New Delhi, following the alleged threat made by Narayanan.
