Kolkata, July 6 In a bid to popularise its first professional table tennis league, to be staged here from July 19 to August 31, the West Bengal Table Tennis Association (WBTTA) is trying to have Pakistan's current national champion on board. A successful attempt will definitely add colour to the tournament.

WBTTA’s efforts to woo players from other states, however, is not going to materialise, mainly because of two key factors. “We have budget constraints. We can spend up to Rs 20 lakh, not more. Secondly, the top players including national champion Sharath Kamal would be unavailable as they would be busy playing at the Olympics. We had talks with Kamal and he was interested. We expect them to join the league next year,” WBTTA joint-secretary Michael Mullick told The Indian Express.
