Kathmandu:: A hostage drama in which junior officials of the Nepal police held at least seven of their seniors captive for 39 hours in Anke district, some 500 km west from here, came to an end with the surrender of the rebels around midnight on Sunday.

Sub-Inspector Dhan Bahadur B K, who led the revolt along with ten others, has been arrested. “They are being tried as per the police act,” Police headquarters said. The police operation to quell the revolt — the third one in the past three weeks in the security agencies — was assisted by the Nepal army.

The junior officials and jawans had held seven officers including a senior superintendent of the police in the police headquarters alleging that they ill-treated the juniors and that sub-standard ration was being supplied to subordinates.
