HYDERABAD, JULY 21: The death of a Class X student of the residential school of Gospel to the Unreached Millions (GUM) in Sangareddy in Medak district has stirred a controversy after a post-mortem report revealed that he died due to a lung infection. The report also stated that the boy had developed a skin infection.

The school is already under scrutiny due to unhygeinic conditions and poor quality of food being served to students.

The school is run by Andhra-born evangelist Dr K A Paul, who founded the Global Peace Initiative registered in USA. Paul, who has now become a politician, recently launched the Praja Shanti Party in Hyderabad.

On Saturday, Abhilash Reddy, 16, had fever after which the school called a doctor. Circle Inspector of Sangareddy G Venkatesh said the doctor told the school authorities to rush him to a hospital. The school informed the boy’s mother who took him to hospital. “The local hospital advised her to rush him to Hyderabad. The boy was admitted to the Erragadda Chest Hospital where he died on Sunday,” the Inspector said.

Police said the boy’s mother took the body to the school and demanded an explanation. “Till late night, the mother refused to take the body away for funeral. She sought an explanation from the school for the boy’s poor health which, she alleged, caused his death,” the inspector said, adding the boy hailed from Zahirabad Mandal.

The Sangareddy police have registered a case of culpable homicide against the school authorities. Paul’s office in Charity City issued a statement that the boy’s mother was informed as soon as he fell sick.
