According to CBI sources, the investigation is complete and details being worked out to chargesheet the accused. “We are also exploring the possibility of arresting the accused before the chargesheets are filed. The charge will be modified to abetment to suicide,” an official said.
Computer graphics designer Rehman’s body was found near the railway tracks at Patipukur on September 1, 2007. The CBI had concluded it was a case of suicide, and not murder. “We are just waiting for the three-week stay period that the honourable court has granted for filing of appeals against the order. We can then file the chargesheets in the lower court,” the CBI official added.
Initially, the CBI filed a case of murder against Rehman’s father-in-law and industrialist Ashok Todi and others at the Bankshall court, after the High Court asked them to investigate the case.
Meanwhile, the accused, are working on their defence and are expected to file petitions before a division bench of the High Court within the coming three weeks.
