Ranchi, August 27: A Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-led UPA coalition Government came to power in Jharkhand on Wednesday with Governor Syed Sibtey Razi administering the oath of office and secrecy to Shibu Soren who became the sixth Chief Minister of the state. Eleven members, constituting the council of ministers, also took the oath of office.

Among them were Sudhir Mahato, Nalin Soren and Dulal Bhuinya of the JMM; Joba Manjhi and Bandhu Tirkey of the United Goan Democratic Party; Kamlesh Singh of the Nationalist Congress Party; Bhanu Pratap Shahi and Aparna Sengupta of the Forward Bloc, and Independents Stephen Marandi, Harinarain Rai and Enos Ekka. All of them except Sengupta, who became minister for the first time, were ministers in the Madhu Koda government.

Soren, MP from Dumka, was sworn in for the second time as CM — the first time he became CM was on March 2, 2005 when he remained in the top post for nine days.

Two constituents of the ruling UPA - Congress and RJD who have nine and seven MLAs respectively - are supporting the Soren Government from outside. Koda was also present at the swearing-in ceremony that took place at the Morhabadi Grounds.

Soon after, Soren went to the state secretariat to meet the government employees, who were on strike to press for interalia hike in their salary, and asked them to withdraw their agitation. After they called off their agitation, Soren set up a committee to look into the merits of their demands. The committee comprises two ministers -Tirkey and Shahi. “They will negotiate with the employees and arrive at a solution,” said Secretary (Cabinet) J Jajoria.

Next, he held his first meeting of the Cabinet and declared the convening of the Assembly session on August 29 to seek trust vote. Earlier, Governor Razi had directed him to prove his majority on the floor of the House on or before September 1.

Unlike his predecessors, Babulal Marandi, Arjun Munda and Madhu Koda, who had addressed press conferences after the first Cabinet meeting, Soren issued a press release underlining his priorities.
