Addressing a press meet, Samiti convenor Leela Karan Sharma said that the proposed rally at 4 pm on Wednesday had been called off upon the request of senior functionaries of the state Government, who said it could add to the law and order problem caused by militant attacks, in which several people had been killed. The decision to cancel the event was taken in an emergency meeting held under Leela Karan’s chairmanship. “Considering national interest as the top priority and responding to the appeal of the security agencies, the Samiti finally decided to cancel the Sangharsh rally,” he said, adding that the “security and safety” of the people took precedence over everything else. “We appeal to all the people to maintain peace and communal harmony and extend cooperation to the security forces combating the militants,” he said.
