New Delhi, August 28: Weightlifter Monika Devi, in a written petition submitted to former Chief Election Commissioner TS Krishna Moorthy, has alleged that her failure to go to the Beijing Olympic Games was due to a “deliberate lapse” on the IOA’s part. She also termed the actions of SAI as “unreasonable and malafide”.

“If the report (dope test) was at all positive, why did the SAI not inform the Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) 48-72 hours prior to the departure as required under the provisions of WADA?” she questioned. “The actions of SAI were unreasonable and malafide,” she said. Monika said her candidature had been cancelled on the ground that her name was not furnished “in time”.
