Blaming the Congress government’s for non-implementation of the law, senior Sena leader Manohar Joshi said while the law requiring the display of signboards in Marathi existed for long, it was because of consistent efforts of the Sena that 60 per cent of signboards were already in Marathi and 10 to 15 per cent more followed suit recently after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reinforced the law and issued an ultimatum.
“No one can say that the ongoing process of displaying Marathi signboards is because of him... the MNS has nothing to do with it,” he said. “We at the BMC invoked the law and I would like to congratulate Municipal Commissioner (Jairaj) Phatak for doing so,” he said, claiming that because of this, nearly 80 per cent of signboards were in Marathi.
