Ahmedabad: : The Gujarat Government released a full-page advertisement in local dailies on Tuesday listing giveaway “signs” that could alert people to potential terrorists, and warning them against what to watch out for. Bhagyesh Jha, Director, Information Department, which issued the advertisement, and P P Pandey, Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence), said all the suggestions were based on “intelligence inputs”.

The highlights of the ad:

A terrorist may wear a coat in summer, or no warm clothes in winter.

His/her clothes may bulge at wrong places, indicating a weapon.

He/she may walk uninvited into community programmes and try to make polite conversation.

Terrorists may be found in places like hospitals, railways, bus stations, religious places and malls.

Differences in the front and rear numberplates of vehicles are suspicious, as is a car tilted at an unusual angle — indicating a heavy boot.

Car dealers must carry out a thorough check on people from other parts of the country interested in buying or selling a vehicle, and keep records of all other kinds of sales with the photos of the customers.

In case there is an attack, stay away from high-rise buildings and parking lots, and contact the police.
