Christian schools attacked in Jaipur, Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad|Jaipur, September 3: In the backdrop of violence in Orissa’s Kandhamal district following the killing of five persons, including VHP leader Laxmanananda Saraswati, two Christian missionary schools in Ahmedabad and one in Jaipur were attacked on Wednesday.

In Ahmedabad, both the incidents occurred in the wee hours when two groups of unidentified persons attacked Mount Carmel School in Navrangpura and St. Xavier's High School Loyola Hall in Naranpura area.

Sister Prescilla Lobo, the principal of Mount Carmel School who has lodged a complaint, said, "The incident happened at around 2.30 a.m. when two cars stopped near the school gate and people in them started abusing the school and pelted stones."

The school authorities said they were confused about the motive of the accused behind the attack although they suspected it could be the fallout of the September 2 silent march by Christians against the Orissa violence.

In Jaipur, alleged VHP activists pelted stones at St Xavier's Senior Secondary School on Wednesday evening after the school temporarily suspended a few students for performing Ganesh puja during class hours.

Though no police complaint has been filed, the school authorities said the miscreants pelted stones and broke several window panes at around 7.30 p.m.
