Allahabad, September 5: Ajeya Singh, the businessman son of former Prime Minister Vishwanath Pratap Singh, is preparing to take a plunge into politics. These days, he is busy making the rounds of Allahabad, Phulpur, Fatehpur area, with an eye on the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

“My father never encouraged me to join politics and I myself had never thought of it till last year. Now that I have made up my mind, I want to pursue it with all sincerity,” said Ajeya while talking to The Indian Express over the telephone on Friday.

Asked what made him change his mind, Ajeya said, “It’s a little early to disclose my reason to join politics. I would prefer to disclose this at an opportune time.”

Fifty-year-old Ajeya studied in England and worked as the India head of Credit Suisse First Boston, the fifth largest global investment bank, before starting his real estate business. He owns various shopping malls all over the country, including one in Allahabad.

Regarding reports that he had already been made the president of Jan Morcha, Ajeya Singh said he had no such information. “This matter was never discussed or communicated to me,” he said, adding, “There are certain things that need to be finalised before I finally plunge into politics.”

Ajeya claims he had offers from the Congress, BJP, SP and BSP, but did not accept any, as these came because of his father’s position in politics. “Taking on my father’s political legacy was very easy for me, but I would then be known as former prime minister’s son which I really don’t like to be called. I will follow my father’s ‘moral legacy’ and the thoughts he gave to Indian politics, but not his political legacy,” said Ajeya.

“I wish I had the qualities and values like my father,” he said, adding that he would definitely try to inculcate them.

Ajeya Singh said he would start his career from Allahabad, Phulpur or Fatehpur, the constituencies which were represented by his father.

“I have carved out a niche in business without the support of my father who gave me a free hand to pursue a career of my own interest. Now, I would try to establish my position in country’s politics on my own,” said Ajeya.
