New Delhi, September 5: Having encountered teething troubles in the nascent third alternative, the CPI(M) top brass is likely to have a fresh look at its political realignment plans when the Politburo meets here over the next two days. The Singur imbroglio would also be on the agenda.

Questions before the CPI(M) leadership are pressing — whether to ditch TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu to join hands with Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam, how to respond to the feelers sent by AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa and the future of the tie-up with the UNPA given the fact that its constituent AGP has more or less entered into a tie-up with the BJP.

The problems before the CPI(M) are plenty. While BSP chief Mayawati, aspiring to be the front’s Prime Ministerial candidate has proved to be a tough customer and has not agreed to accommodate other parties in Uttar Pradesh for an electoral understanding, JD(S) supremo H D Devegowda also nurtures ambitions to become the PM again.

Given the differences, the much-publicised joint campaign against the Government by the Left, the UNPA parties, the BSP and the JD(S) has not started yet.

Besides the third alternative worries, there would be discussion on the Singur controversy and its political fallout. West Bengal Chief Minister and Politburo member Buddhadeb Bhattacharya’s anti-bandh remarks, which had created a storm in the party, would also be discussed.
