




Dr Rakesh Kapoor from Lucknow, demonstrated that a simple hernia mesh meant for hernia repair can be fashioned to the need for pelvic floor repair and thus, the indigenously designed mesh will cut the cost factor of the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse.
Dr Linda Cardozo from UK and Dr Pranathy Reddy from Hyderabad demonstrated other methods for the treatment of prolapse.
Earlier in the day, the sessions by experts from various institutes across the country highlighted that monofilament or polypropylene mesh adds to the strength of pelvic floor, to prevent recurrence of big prolapse.
During the workshop, the contemporary techniques of repair, both natural tissue as well as polypropylene mesh, were discussed.
Dr Ajay Rane said the addition of this technique has an inherent problem of erosion, which may occur in upto 12 per cent of cases.
