Written exams for panel umpires held

Mohali, September 05: A panel of umpire examiners, headed by S Venkatraghavan, former test umpire, conducted the BCCI Panel Umpires written examination at PCA Stadium on Friday. The other panellists were S K Bansal (North Zone), Subrata Banerjee (East Zone), V K. Ramaswamy (South Zone), B A. Jamula (West Zone), Narendra Menon (Central Zone). As many as 33 first class cricketers and 80 non-cricketers took the written examination. The result of the written examination is expected on September 6 and the candidates who pass the examination will appear for viva on September 13 and 14 at Bangalore. According to Sushil Kapoor, spoke person of PCA, 15 successful candidates will be recommended for BCCI panel umpires.

Sumeet bowls Shivalik School to victory
CHANDIGARH: A fine bowling performance by Sumeet Kumar (5 for 29) and a brilliant knock by Aditya Kumar (49 runs) powered Shivalik Public School, Sector 41 towards an emphatic 75 run win over DC Model School, Panchkula in the inaugural Molly Carver Champions League Cricket Tournament being organised by Chandigarh Cricket Association, at Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 19 on Friday.

Batting first, Shivalik Public School made 134 runs in 23 overs. Aditya and Karan were the main scorers with knocks of 49 and 37 runs respectively while Saurav and Milan bagged three wickets each for DC School.

In reply, DC Model were bowled out for 59 runs in 13 overs. Rizul top scored with 17 runs.

Saint Soldier register double victories
CHANDIGARH: Saint Soldier International School registered victories in both boys' and girls' CBSE Cluster Thirteenth Kho-Kho Championship held at St Soldier School, Sector 28 on Friday.

Saint Soldier girls' defeated VR Senior Secondary School, Baddi by seven points (12-5) while the boys' team got the better of MIA DAV Mehatpur, Himachal Pradesh by two points (10-8).
