New Delhi: : In a bid to put more pressure on the Government, leaders of Left parties, the BSP and Telugu Desam will meet President Pratibha Patil on Tuesday to demand that a Parliament session be immediately convened to discuss developments on the Indo-US nuclear deal.

The parties had sought an appointment with the President on Saturday, but did not get an audience. Sources in the Left said Rashtrapati Bhavan had fixed their appointment on Tuesday and reasoned that the meeting was delayed because the deal is to come up before the US Congress on Monday.

CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat has already demanded that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh resign for “lying to the people and Parliament” and “misleading” the country on the nuclear deal.

BSP chief and UP Chief Minister Mayawati has also asked the President to direct the UPA Government to immediately convene a Parliament session or dismiss it in case the Government fails to do so.

“After revelations about the conditions being imposed on the country through the nuclear deal, the Congress is unable to muster courage to face Parliament. For the first time, we will not have a Winter Session of Parliament while the Monsoon Session too has been deferred to October. This has never happened in the past,” said Mayawati.
