Mumbai, September 6: Watching Sachin Tendulkar address a brand promotion media conference with his restless son Arjun waiting next to the dais gave an idea about the time the one-time prodigy had spent enduring the public gaze. From the kid with a curly mop talking about the secret of his energy to the 35-year-old father with a receding hairline promoting investment to secure a child’s future today, Tendulkar has come a long way.

Looking relaxed while in the middle of a rare and unexpected cricketing break, he wasn’t too keen to talk about cricket. Though queries about his fitness did crop up but there too it was Tendulkar the indulgent father who replied and not quite the international cricketing star.

“Yes I am fit,” he said squashing fresh doubts about this dodgy elbow after the Sri Lanka Test series and added that he will be play the Irani Trophy too. Further confirmation about his health came to light when Tendulkar spoke about the quality time he has been spending at home. “My son is a big WWE fan and so I end up watching it with him. And after that Arjun has to practice the moves he sees on television and so I too play along him,” he said.

The predictable question about the junior-senior balance in the team was dismissed since Tendulkar was keen to speak on the important balance an aging cricketer has to make while sharing time between family and the game. “I make the best use of the time away from the game. I don’t quite go to parties and that means I am mostly at home when I am not playing. But yes, one misses the family a lot when one is touring. My family has got used to me being away from home,” he said.

The man who has been living from a suitcase for over two decades now says that this has been part and parcel of life. “When one is playing the pressures are so much. One’s mind is on the game so there is no chance to think about anything else. My situation is like anybody else. No one can afford to bunk work to be at home. That’s how it is,” he said.

Tendulkar went back in time as he spoke about the time his parents spent with him during those growing-up days. “My parents were working but every evening they used to spend time with me. And on weekends we used to go out together,” he says.
