IMSA organises workshop on medical research

Ludhiana, September 06: The International Medical Sciences Academy (IMSA) and SPS Apollo Hospital jointly organised a workshop on liver diseases, diabetes and stem cell application in Neurology today.

Dr IPS Kalra, former secretary general of IMSA, was the chief guest on the occasion. Jugdeep Singh, managing director of SPS Apollo, inaugurated the workshop.

Dr GL Avasthi, Director Medical Services and convener of IMSA, gave the opening lecture and welcomed the delegates. About 150 doctors from leading nursing homes and hospitals of the city and adjoining areas attended the programme, which was held at Hotel Country Inn. Dr DS Walia, president and Dr Vikas Loomba, secretary of the physician forum were also present.

Dr Sanjay K Somani, DM Gastroenterology, gave a talk on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

Dr Gurpreet Singh, DM Endocrinology, also gave a lecture on ‘Clinical update on the management on diabetes’. He spoke about the latest development regarding new medicines and devices related to management of diabetes.

Dr Siddhartha Garg, DM Neurology, gave spoke about ‘Stem cell and its application in Neurology’. He said that applications of stem cell medicine are likely to be neurological, targeting spinal cord injury, brain tumours, metabolic derangements, and disorders of movements. “For our patients with devastating neurological conditions, stem cell research gives them hope of new therapeutic measures,” said Dr Garg.
