Pedestrian crushed by truck near IT park

Chandigarh, September 06: A 32-year-old labourer died after a speeding truck ran over him near the Information Technology (IT) park around 7 pm on Friday. Jagdayal, a resident of plot number 16 in IT Park, was collecting some iron rods from the road when the truck hit him from behind.

Jagdayal sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, by the police where he was declared “dead on arrival”.

A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered against the absconding truck driver.

“Efforts are on to arrest the accused,” said Ajmer Singh, Head Constable of the Manimajra police station.

Cyclist dies, another hurt in Zirakpur One person died while another was seriously injured after a Skoda car collided with their bicycle near Dhakoli village on the Panchkula-Zirakpur highway around 9 pm on Friday.

The deceased Chanderdev and his friend Prakash, both residents of Ambedkar Colony in Dhakoli, were reportedly returning home from Panchkula.

The two were rushed to the Sector-6 Government Hospital, Panchkula, where Chanderdev succumbed to his injuries.

A case under Sections 279, 337 and 304-A (rash and negligent driving) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the absconding car driver.
