Chandigarh, September 06: Welcoming the decision to pass the Bill pertaining to the assault on doctors by the Punjab Assembly, the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Chandigarh Chapter today thanked the state Government for taking care of the interests of the medical fraternity.

A Bill to provide for the protection of Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institution and for the prevention of violence and damage to property was passed in the state assembly recently.

Addressing mediapersons, Dr A P Sanwaria said that the Act would be beneficial for the doctors.

Dr Zora Singh, president of IMA, said: “The absence of the Act was causing problems to genuine patients who were being referred to other hospitals, because of the fear that some anti-social elements may ransack the hospital and assault the doctors if there is any complication in the case or in the view of the death of a patient.”
