




The police arrested the three — Ankur Charra, a resident of Sardarnagar; Ritesh Charra, a resident of Kubernagar; and Afzal Ansari, a resident of Vejalpur — near Jain Derasar in Krishnanagar.
The police seized nine laptops and two digital cameras from the three. On being questioned, the accused confessed to have stolen at least 27 laptops from different places in the city over the past few months.
“The trio have also disclosed the names of their accomplices. They are Kirit Charra, Ajay Charra, Sonu Marwadi, Chaya Ghagrekar and Anju Ghagrekar. They will be arrested soon,” said K K Rathod, Assistant Commissioner of Police, G Division.
During interrogation, the three also revealed the modus operandi of the gang.
“Taking advantage of the commotion, Kirit and Ajay would then steal the gadgets from a car in the parking area by breaking its glasses,” said Rathod.
The gang took all the necessary precautions against being suspected, the police said. After stealing the articles, Kirit and Ajay would hand over the booty to Ankur, Ritesh and Afzal, who would then flee on a motorcycle.
“Ankur is a Home Guard. and it helped the gang while escaping,” Rathod added.
