Pune, September 06: Urging the PMC to take over the land from the College of Agriculture for the proposed Metro Rail project, BJP corporator Ujwal Keskar on Friday said that the PMC should offer alternative land to the college authorities. Following resistance from the Union Agriculture minister Sharad Pawar, for parting with the land for the Metro project, the authorities of the Agriculture College also made it clear that the land would not be given for the project. Keskar said, “If PMC goes for a defence land, then the project would not materialise even in the next 25 years. Metro will be a non-polluting mode of transport and hence, it is not likely to draw ire from the environmentalists.” He also raised doubts whether the civic authorities had discussed the issues with the Agriculture College, before going ahead with the Metro Rail plan.
