




Having played in two previous finals in the space of a week, both teams knew each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Hence they were evenly matched. ‘Both team launched attacks on opposing goal, but neither of the defences could be broken. The final had to settled by a tiebreaker. St. Josephs edged past St. Anne’s 3-2, with Aishwarya Nalawade, Antara Iyer and Ketki Morwal scoring for the winners and Nicola Pinto and Apurva Gaikwad scoring for the losing team.
In the under 16 girls final of the Nehru Cup that took place on Friday at the St Joseph’s hockey ground St. Anne’s beat St. Josephs, Pashan 2-1 in the tie breaker.
The crowd witnessed a closely fought encounter which ended 1-1 at the end of regulation time.
St. Anne’s took the lead through Nicola Pinto in the 20 th minute.
Zia Shaikh and Geeta Pawar converted for the winners and Ketki Morwal converted for the runners up.
