Abu Dhabi, October 19 Disinvestment Minister Arun Shourie had a personal thank you to deliver to Fatima, wife of the ruler of Abu Dhabi, for a kind deed she did 28 years ago. Shourie has a spastic son and his wife was one of the three women who had launched the Centre for Special Education in Hauz Khas, Delhi.

Today, the Centre is known through the world but back then the three women were trying to raise money for an institution for spastic children when the wife of the Indian Ambassador in Abu Dhabi organised a fair. Fatima — wife of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan — happened to visit. She made a contribution of a few lakhs at the fair. ‘‘At any rate, that was the seed money for the Centre,’’ Shourie told reporters as he sought out journalists from local papers to convey the thank you.

‘‘I won’t be able to reach her,’’ said Shourie. ‘‘So please convey my gratitude to her.’’ Shourie hoped she would read what he had to say. President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam met 67 physically challenged children in Abu Dhabi during his first appointment on Sunday.
