NEW DELHI, JULY 18: The Gujarat government and Centre came under attack in the Lok Sabha for blaming the Godhra train incident on the minority community. Demanding an explanation from the Centre, Opposition MPs said that Ahmedabad forensic laboratory report had established that the fire in the train compartment had been fuelled by combustible material kept inside. This debunked the theory that the train had been set on fire from outside.

Raising the issue during the zero hour, Prakash Ambedkar (Bharipa Bahujan Mahasang) demanded that the forensic report be tabled in the House. He said there had been a deliberate move to create an impression that people from the minority community set the compartment afire, stoking communal riots across Gujarat.

He said even Prime Minister Vajpayee had said at the BJP national executive in Goa that riots would not have broken out in Gujarat had it not been for the Godhra incident.
