NEW DELHI, JANAURY 21 Even as Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal announced that the government was in the process of finalising its tsunami warning system, experts from India and abroad had a ‘brainstorming’ session today on a warning system for Indian Ocean.

Sibal said India had decided to install the Deep Ocean Assessment and Report System at a cost of Rs 125 crore. ‘‘We will prepare the software and the whole process will take two years,’’ he said. ‘‘If we are able to install 10-12 DARTS in Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, connect them to database, get information from the satellite, and if we can successfully model the software, then we should be able to get information about tsunamis.’’

Sibal said the government had given consent for the money needed for the project. The government, he said, is open to more suggestions from experts around the world, who have gathered in the Capital. ‘‘We will be discussing various models and perhaps by the end of the session, we should decide on what is most suitable for the Indian situation,’’ he added.
