NEW DELHI, APRIL 12 Brajesh Mishra, former National Security Advisor and a key aide to former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, today described RSS Sarsanghchalak K. S. Sudarshan’s vision as that of a ‘‘frog in a well.’’

Mishra described the allegations made by Sudarshan against him in an interview to The Indian Express Editor-in-Chief Shekhar Gupta on NDTV’s Walk the Talk programme as ‘‘inane and absurd.’’ In the interview, Sudarshan said that ‘‘Mishra was aligned with both Sonia and us... when I pointed this to Vajpayee, he was annoyed.’’

Mishra told The Indian Express: ‘‘Anybody who knows me does not doubt my loyalty to Atalji. Mr Sudarshan’s vision is that of a frog in a well.’’ A livid former principal secretary to Vajpayee said: ‘‘It is well known that it is easy to bend Sudarshan’s ears by interested parties on the basis of what he has been told by a coterie of his followers. He makes wild allegations which are fictitious.’’

Sudarshan’s comments have equally upset Vajpayee and BJP President L.K. Advani. While Vajpayee refused to discuss Sudarshan’s interview with the party leadership or the RSS, he called up Mishra on Monday to tell him about Sudarshan’s allegations.

Advani called up Sudarshan on Sunday evening and bluntly asked the Sarsanghchalak whether he wanted him to quit from his party post. It was then that the RSS piped down and expressed faith in Vajpayee and Advani’s leadership.

After Sudarshan’s statements against Vajpayee, his foster son-in-law Ranjan Bhattacharya and Mishra were telecast on Monday, Advani and Jaswant Singh called up the former prime minister to tell him that the party was coming out with a resolution in support of the leadership and the NDA government headed by Vajpayee.

During the meeting of party general secretaries at Advani’s house, special invitee Jaswant Singh left the discussion half-way to brief Vajpayee. At that time, Vajpayee was sitting in his Krishna Menon Road house with Mishra and the foster family and the topic of discussion was Sudarshan’s interview. The party statement on Monday evening was read out to Vajpayee by general secretary Arun Jaitely over the phone and was issued after his approval.
