Bangalore, October 21 Infosys Technologies Ltd, under attack from former PM and Janata Dal (Secular) leader H D Deve Gowda, is letting the facts do the talking.
The day after chairman N R Narayana Murthy quit the airport consortium expressing anguish over Gowda’s diatribe—and Congress CM Dharam Singh’s silence—Infosys rebutted Gowda’s allegations.
Gowda: Infosys usurped substantial land in the name of IT, probe how many jobs it created.
• Infosys: Total investment: Rs 1,744 crore; 22,000 jobs in Karnataka alone. 14% of total IT exports from Karnataka, 2,500 miscellaneous jobs on three campuses in Bangalore, Mysore and Mangalore. For the fully utilized Bangalore property, 8.97 acres bought in the open market; 18.26 acres allotted by a former government firm KEONICS and 52.53 acres allotted by Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board after acquiring land with consent of landowners. In Mysore, property allotted to Infosys ‘‘acquired at market rate.’’ It has a ‘‘world class Global Education Center and Infosys Leadership Institute (ILI)’’ covering 218 acres.
Gowda: Infosys asked for 845 acres of agricultural land for a new software centre and staff township.
• Infosys: Zoning requirements secured as per law. Land acquired at market price. No special govt concession. In one portion, 25,000 people will get jobs. Investment: Rs 1,500 crore.
‘‘All these proposals have been vetted by various departments of the Government of Karnataka and have been reviewed and approved by high-level committees headed by various Chief Ministers of Karnataka,’’ Infosys said.
