Sanctuary award to Express for its probe into tiger deaths

    MUMBAI, DECEMBER 8 The first Wind Under the Wings award, instituted as part of the Sanctuary ABN AMRO Wildlife awards, to an organisation facilitating conservation will go to The Indian Express for its investigation into the killing of tigers inside national parks.

    Announcing this, Bittu Sahgal, Editor, Sanctuary magazine, said that this was in recognition of its ‘‘unstinting support to the investigative work undertaken by Jay Mazoomdaar on the recent tiger crisis in India’’. Mazoomdaar, a Senior Assistant Editor with The Indian Express, exposed the killing of tigers in Sariska and Ranthambore national parks.

    The award ceremony tomorrow at the Tata theatre, National Centre for Performing Arts in Mumbai will also see the presentation of the Lifetime Service award to A J T Johnsingh from Tamil Nadu, Green Teacher award to Madhu Bhatnagar of Sri Ram School, Delhi and Wildlife Photography award to Kalyan Varma, an IT professional from Bangalore.
