Chennai, August 27: Tamil Nadu Minister C Durairaj, who watched on as around 105 children were buried ‘‘for a minute’’ in Peraiyur village near Madurai on August 21—as reported by The Indian Express—has resigned.

In a signed statement, the Housing and Urban Development Minister said his participation in the religious ritual had brought ‘‘disrepute’’ to and affected the ‘‘image’’ of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and the AIADMK Government.

Durairaj added that he would hand over his resignation letter to Jayalalithaa on her return from New Delhi.

The 51-year-old had been actively involved in campaigning for Jayalalithaa when she contested from Andipatti in February this year.
