NEW DELHI,JANUARY 31 Two days before taking oath as Karnataka CM on February 3, JD(S) breakaway group leader HD Kumaraswamy is reaching Delhi tomorrow to seek the ‘‘blessings’’ of the BJP top brass and lay the ground for a ‘‘long term’’ partnership at the national level with new-found ally in the state, BJP sources said today.
The JD(S)-BJP coalition will follow the same power-sharing formula of the previous Congress-JD(S) coalition. In other words, though the Kumaraswamy group has fewer members than the BJP, it will act as the senior partner with 18 ministerial portfolio to the BJP’s 16. The JD(S) Speaker will remain in place for the first 20 months and will be replaced by a BJP nominee when the BJP leads the government for the next 20 months.
Kumaraswamy, who has delayed his swearing in for astrological reasons, will hold separate meetings with A B Vajpayee and LK Advani at their residences in Delhi. He will then drive to the BJP headquarters to meet party chief Rajnath Singh.
The man who facilitated the BJP’s entry to the south will also be felicitated at a lunch hosted by BJP’s Venkaiah Naidu tomorrow. Naidu hosts a lunch for the media every year but the Karnataka ‘‘coup’’—in which he played a key role—is expected to add lustre to the occasion this time.
BJP sources said the tie-up with Kumaraswamy faction was not a ‘‘temporary’’ arrangement but the beginning of a long-term relationship. Kumaraswamy, sources said, will underline his commitment to the relationship during his meetings with the BJP top brass.
