SRINAGAR At least five persons were injured when police lathicharged and teargassed protestors demonstrating against the India visit of US President George W Bush in Budgam district of J-K on Thursday, official sources said.
Raising anti-Bush slogans, the protestors belonging to Shia community converged at Chattergam to take out a procession to the local office of UN Military Observers Group for India and Pakistan (unmogip) at Sonawar, the sources said.
When they were prevented by the policemen, the protestors started pelting stones on them. The police then resorted to a lathicharge and lobbed tear gas shells, in which five persons were injured, the sources added.
AHMEDABAD: Muslims, led by certain NGOs, staged protests against US President George W Bush visit to India. About 200-odd people, including members of an NGO ‘Jan Sangharsh Manch’, held demonstrations in the Walled City area. Carrying anti-Bush placards, the demonstrators raised slogans “Bush go back” and criticised him for his Iraq and Iran policies.
CHENNAI: Protests continued for the second day in Tamil Nadu and three All-India Youth Federation activists were arrested for attempting to set ablaze Bush’s effigy. In the city, more than 1,000 CPI, CPI(M), AIFB and CPI-ML activists took out a rally. — PTI
